FIELD GUIDE / SYSTEM OVERVIEW

The visible grid.
The hidden relationships.

At first, the machine seems easy to read. A few parts, a steady output. Then a new relationship makes the familiar arrangement look incomplete.

6 SYSTEMS / OPERATOR BRIEFING

A single Producer suspended above a nine-socket production grid
FIG. 01 / INITIAL ARRAYCONFIGURATION: OPEN

OUTPUT

Producer

Converts time into Units.

NEIGHBORHOOD

Amplifier

Supports adjacent Producers.

AXIS

Relay

Supports a row or column.

01UNIT GENERATION

An empty position carries weight.

The first Producer establishes a rhythm. Income becomes another part, another level, another decision. For a while, the direction seems obvious.

Eventually, a vacant position starts to suggest something other than another copy of what you already have. The surrounding parts have changed its value.

SOCKET → CORE → CONTINUOUS OUTPUT

INVESTIGATEWhen does an empty socket become valuable?

Notice the spaces your eye keeps returning to as the machine grows. Their value may belong to something you have not placed yet.

02SPATIAL INTERACTIONS

The effect crosses the boundary.

Some cores matter because of what happens around them. An Amplifier alters a neighborhood. A Relay gives a line a different significance.

Once those influences overlap, the inventory tells only part of the story. A familiar machine can conceal another arrangement.

SAME INVENTORY ≠ SAME THROUGHPUT

INVESTIGATEIs maximum coverage always the best placement?

Compare which Producers receive support, not just how many. A layout that works at one stage may behave differently after a few upgrades.

03CAPITAL ALLOCATION

Progress shifts the balance.

An upgrade changes the weight of a part within the machine. The position that deserved attention a moment ago may no longer be the center of the problem.

Growth has an uneven rhythm. Some steps extend a trend. Others leave you reconsidering where it was heading.

CURRENT COST / FUTURE OUTPUT

INVESTIGATEWhich purchase changes the next decision?

Consider the machine after the purchase. Does it simply raise output, or bring an upgrade, unlock, or rearrangement within reach?

04SYSTEM SPECIALIZATION

An exception becomes a method.

Research can make an overlooked arrangement matter. A condition that seemed incidental becomes something to build around.

A machine develops a particular character through these choices. Its strengths suggest a direction; its awkward edges suggest the next experiment.

DISCOVERY → ALLOCATION → RECONFIGURATION

INVESTIGATEWhat makes an old layout worth revisiting?

Read a new effect against your existing grid. The interesting part may be the positions it makes useful, rather than the number it changes.

05TIME ACCUMULATION

The interval has its own effect.

The machine continues to earn through your absence, within its offline limit. The arrangement you leave becomes the starting condition for your return.

Time gives a decision room to show its consequences. A return visit begins with the same structure and a changed balance.

ELAPSED TIME → RETAINED PRODUCTION

INVESTIGATEWhat should the machine do before you leave?

Check its current output and offline limit. A useful final adjustment can be as simple as applying a better layout before closing the session.

06PERMANENT PROGRESSION

A machine can outlive its arrangement.

Expanding the grid brings the current machine to a close. Permanent progress carries into the next cycle, where a familiar beginning can lead somewhere else.

The question is when to let an arrangement go. Review what the transition preserves before deciding what to leave behind.

CYCLE STATE / PERSISTENT STATE

INVESTIGATEWhen has a cycle done enough?

Compare the next permanent gain with the time needed to reach it. The useful question is what the next cycle would let you do differently.

END OF BRIEFING / AWAITING INPUT

The first arrangement
is a hypothesis.

Give it a position. See what follows.
